Building a Foundation for the Future, One Book at a Time
Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia supports our community and always looks for ways to give back. We believe that fostering a love of reading in local children will help them be part of a thriving Central Virginia for years to come. That’s why we are so proud to announce our continued support of the Scripps Howard Fund’s “If You Give a Child a Book” program, in partnership with our friends at CBS6.
This is more than just a donation; it’s a commitment to our community. Together, we are working to empower the next generation of readers.
Why This Program is So Important
The statistics on childhood literacy are sobering. Many children in low-income neighborhoods do not have access to books at home. This lack of books can impact their reading proficiency and future academic success. The “If You Give a Child a Book” program aims to bridge this gap by providing free books to children at Title I schools in our area.
Renewal by Andersen of Central Virginia supports this program because we believe in its mission: to give children the tools they need to become lifelong readers. The program allows children to choose their own books at Scholastic Book Fairs. Research shows that children who get to select their own books are more likely to enjoy reading and have higher text scores.
Our goal, alongside the Scripps Howard Fund and CBS6, is to help ensure every child in our partner schools receives 10 new books each year. As of September 5, 2025, 400 donors in Central Virginia have raised an impressive $48,000 for the cause!
